2018 has one hellova tasty looking buffet of video games in its line-up. Coming off the back of a monster year filled with Cinderella stories, and Reddit backlash, 2018 is a big year for the EA’s of the world to try win back our hearts. With that said here’s a look at what’s in the pipeline.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
An update to Capcom’s arcade brawler does a complete overhaul of the V trigger system breathing new life into the fighting game community. With the addition of new characters, and Arcade Mode, Street Fighter V is looking stronger than ever before.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is the Dungeons and Dragons RPG wet dream you’ve always wanted. The game is fairly self-explanatory: create your character and venture forth into a lush open world teaming with life, loot and monsters.
Far Cry 5
Ubisoft has delivered some incredible experiences in the past two years with its most recent release, Assassins Creed Origins being an instant classic. But it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new Far Cry game that builds on the franchise we’ve come to know and love. Upcoming Far Cry 5 will have you liberating communities from an overzealous totalitarian cult with action, humour and suspense to boot.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Easily one of the most anticipated game of 2018, Rockstar’s followup to the smash hit Red Dead Redemption has already had a smouldering marketing campaign leading up to its announcement. Red Dead 2 is looking like it’s shaping up to be the hottest game of the year with some returning characters and some new faces all thrown into a dark Western action adventure.
EA had a rough go of it in 2017 but they’ve put a lot of eggs into the Anthem basket. Early footage shows a vast an lush open world with some of the best environment rendering we’ve seen yet. Their MMORPG looks to be a Destiny 2 rival, with epic mech jet pack suits.
The Last of Us Part 2
Naughty Dog stole and crushed our hearts with The Last of Us, the dystopian “zombie” apocalypse action adventure game. Joel and Ellie’s stories are far from over and with the studio making a splash with the reveal trailer at 2017 Paris Games Week, Part 2 looks to be even darker.
Hideo Kojima is renowned as one of the best video game creators in the world. After the success of Metal Gear Solid, he left Konami to start his own studio, Kojima Productions. Their first release, Death Stranding is shrouded in mystery with one obscure story trailer after the next. We know that Mads Mikkelson and Norman Reedus appear as characters in the game, but apart from that it’s all surreal visual fantasy.
